Care for Our Community
To complement this year’s Literature Festival titled “Scent of Books, Scenes of Hong Kong” organized by the Hong Kong Central Library from late June to mid-July, the Hong Kong Film Archive is presenting the “Care for Our Community” programme in order to enhance audiences’ interest in our city’s culture and social development. From 1950 The Kid of 1950 to The Way We Are premiered just this year, the 16 films selected may have different focuses, but they all are truthful attempts by filmmakers of different generations to voice their concerns for Hong Kong people. The subjects covered include our lifestyle, cultural identity, living environment, city landscape and social changes, with special attention paid to such issues as family relations, teenage growth, as well as law and order. It is our hope that through drama and entertainment, these films will lead audiences to reflect on the changes Hong Kong has gone through, and in turn learn more about our society and culture.
Also featured in the programme are several TV productions by Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) and the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC). Three seminars hosted by teachers and students from Lingnan University will take place at the HKFA and the Central Library. A special thanks to all institutions and friends who have offered us their kind assistance.
