(Co-operated with the Hong Kong 3 Arts Musical Institute)

Scheme Introduction
"Once On This Island" and "Broadway Magic!" English Musical Theatre Animateur Pilot Scheme is a comprehensive musical theatre education project for primary and secondary schools. It aims to engage the teachers, students and the whole school in the unique art form of musical theatre, and produce high standard complete musicals, which reflect an informed understanding, talent, training processes, and collaboration among schools and professionals. "Once On This Island" and "Broadway Magic!" are the musical plays performed by secondary and primary school respectively.

Through an array of school-based, studio and performance venue programmes - in-school introductory performance, musical theatre workshops, auditions, teachers' seminar, and finale performance - the Project emphasizes the following:

Better understanding on musical theatre - the history and contemporary development of musical theatre will be introduced. Broadway's different periods and styles, as well as classic, rock, concept and contemporary musicals, will be highlighted.

Thorough musical theatre performance training - professional teaching artists will train students with 3 levels of training workshops: Musical Theatre Introductory Workshop: 3 Arts Elements; Musical Theatre Training: Triple Threats; and Intensive Musical Theatre Training. Students will be challenged by the vigorous demands of singing, dancing and acting as musical theatre performers.

Exploration and analysis of related theme and issues - in the process of play and character analysis, students will explore the rich elements embedded in the selected musicals. The instructors will guide the students through the theme and issues, such as hope, forgiveness, human spirit, discrimination and living in harmony.

The Scheme is implemented in 2 primary and 2 secondary schools.
