“Community Oral History Theatre Project – Sha Tin District”

Introduction

The “Community Oral History Theatre Project – Sha Tin District” is co-organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Chung Ying Theatre Company, The Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council and The Hong Kong Society for the Aged. Through organizing a series of workshops, the project aims at providing drama training to the elderly in Sha Tin District, gathering their personal experiences and valuable recollections to come up with a drama script, and providing an opportunity for the elderly to act their stories on stage. The project is implemented in four phases:

Phase Date Details
Phase 1 October – November 2015 The participant recruitment period. Senior citizens of Sha Tin District and the general public are invited to watch the oral history theatre demonstration performance North Point Anecdotes and attend a sharing session. Senior citizens of Sha Tin District are recruited on site to join the project. For details, please click here.
Phase 2 December 2015 – April 2016 The drama training period. Elderly participants of Sha Tin District will be given training in drama.
Phase 3 May – July 2016 The script formation period. Instructors will lead the elderly participants of Sha Tin District to recall the ties between their own experience and the community, assemble their own life experiences, and compile them into a script.
Phase 4 August 2016 – April 2017 The exchange and rehearsal period. In-depth exchanges and rehearsals will be arranged for the elderly participants of Sha Tin District. They will perform in one outreach performance and two finale public performances.
11 February 2017 Arrangements will be made to let the elderly participants take part in an outreach oral history performance in Hong Kong Heritage Museum. For details, please click here.
29-30 April 2017 Arrangements will be made to let the elderly participants take part in two finale performances at Cultural Activities Hall, Sha Tin Town Hall. For details, please click here.

Except the finale performances at Cultural Activities Hall, Sha Tin Town Hall in phase 4, the various activities of the project are all free of charge.
