“Community Oral History Theatre Project – Eastern District”

Introduction

The “Community Oral History Theatre Project – Eastern District” was co-organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Chung Ying Theatre Company, the Hong Kong Society for the Aged and the Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council. Through organizing a series of workshops, the project aims at gathering the personal experiences and valuable recollections of the elderly in Eastern District to come up with a drama script, and providing an opportunity for the elderly to act their stories on stage. The project is implemented in four phases:

Phase Date Details
Phase 1 July – August 2014 The participant recruitment period. Senior citizens and the general public are invited to watch the oral history theatre demonstration performance “The People, the Story and the Memory” and attend a sharing session. Senior citizens from Eastern District are recruited on the site to join the project. For details, please click here
Phase 2 September 2014 – March 2015 The drama training period. Elderly participants of Eastern District will be given training in drama.
Phase 3 March – June 2015 The script formation period. Instructors will lead the elderly participants of Eastern District to recall the ties between their own experience and the community, assemble their own life experiences, and compile them into a script.
Phase 4 13 December 2015 Arrangements will be made to let the elderly participants take part in an outreach oral history performance in Chai Wan. For details, please click here
Phase 5 June 2015 – January 2016 The exchange and rehearsal period. In-depth exchanges and rehearsals will be arranged for the elderly participants of Eastern District. They will perform in two finale public performances. here

Except the finale public performances in phase 5, the various activities of the project are all free of charge.
