Introduction to “Community Oral History Theatre Project – Kwun Tong District”

Introduction

The “Community Oral History Theatre Project – Kwun Tong District” was co-organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Chung Ying Theatre Company and the Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council. Through organizing a series of workshops, the project aims at gathering the personal experiences and valuable recollections of the elderly in Kwun Tong and writing scripts with the oral information so collected, providing an opportunity for the elderly to act out their stories on stage themselves. The project is implemented in four phases:

Phase Date Details
Phase 1 October 2011 The elderly in Kwun Tong District are invited to watch a performance by the drama group of the Sham Shui Po centre of the Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council, at the end of which an on-site recruitment of project participants is held.
Phase 2 October 2011 - January 2012 A training period in which drama training is provided to elderly participants.
Phase 3 February 2012 – May 2012 A script writing period in which the personal experiences of elderly participants are gathered and collated for script writing.
Phase 4 13-14 April 2013 2 finale public performances will be jointly given by elderly performers of The Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council from Sham Shui Po and elderly participants of the project from Kwun Tong District. For details, please click here.
