This is a bio-drama musical loosely based on a Hong Kong CantoPop band, The Wynners.
Five young men who share a passion for music have come together to form a band. Hon, the owner of the tuck shop in school, who has nothing but moneymaking in mind, sees in them a lucrative possibility. He proposes to be their manager and vows to make them stars. Although each of the five have problems to face in life – study, family and love – their passion for music launched them onto the road to success, and the band’s name, The Winners, has stayed prominent for 35 years in the Hall of Fame of CantoPop in Hong Kong.
Inspiration of the play is drawn from the film Let’s Rock made by The Wynners, with screenplay, music score and directing by James Wong. Many of the songs originally scored for the film are included, such as ‘L-O-V-E Love’, Money Is Everything, Why Holding Hands?, I Am So Lonesome Tonight, as well as the group’s hits and household tunes by James Wong, such as Friends, It Won’t Change in a Thousand Years, A Love Affair, It’s Not By Chance We Meet, The Love Suite, Let It All Sail Away with the Wind, After 80 etc..
With the catchy tunes and suave dance routines typical of the 70’s, the show promises to be great fun to watch. |
