Programme

Richard Strauss occupies a prominent niche in the world of operas. He was regarded as a trailblazer for his innovative composition techniques and setting of libretti and story to music. To give music aficionados more insight into Strauss’s operas, Savio Lau, Editor (Music Section) of Hi Fi Review, a leading magazine in classical music in Hong Kong, has picked three productions for a series of three video shows. They are: Salome, directed by Luc Bondy with Christoph von Dohnányi conducting; Ariadne auf Naxos, directed by Claus Guth, also with Christoph von Dohnányi conducting; and Der Rosenkavalier, directed by Uwe Eric Laufenberg with Fabio Luisi conducting.  Each promises to be a magnificent audio visual experience as the venue will be installed with top-of-the line equipment that offer HD (high definition display) and stereo effects. Each screening will open with a brief introduction by the programme host, and end with his discussion with music critics from Hi Fi Review.  Each session promises to be a great way to enjoy Richard Strauss’s operas and to know more about the composer and his works.
