About the Speaker


Albert Ho

Lecturer of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts


Albert Ho holds a Diploma in Education and a Master of Music degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He trained in flute under Timothy Wilson, oboe under Peter Cooper, violin under Dr. Ryker, vocal under Hwang Lu-Rhen and Clara Yip, and composition under David Gwilt and Victor Chan. He has been teaching music studies at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts for more than ten years, and is currently teaching theories of music, music technology and music recording. He is also actively involved in recording for productions in the Academy as well as by other performing groups.  Ho was a part-time oboist with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, flautist with the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra, and part-time teacher at the University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the School of Continuing and Professional Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the Alliance Bible Seminary. In his keen efforts to promote music, Ho often hosts talks for various organisations. They include, more recently, pre-concert talks on The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, Flute Recital by Sir James Galway, Fabio Biondi with Europa Galante, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Gidon Kremer & Kremerata Baltica, the Flute Music Lecture Series and Forces of Nature in Music. Ho is a regular host on Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), with topics covering the music of Vienna and Bach etc.. He was the Music Director of the plays Twelfth Night and Trojan – A Sequel. He also composed and arranged for The Balcony, Lost Under the Blue Moon and The Life and Death of Almost Everybody. He wrote the overture for several RTHK television programme series. Ho’s interest is wide and varied, covering teaching, composition, arranging, electronic music and recording.
