Since its opening in 1876 the Festival Theatre in Bayreuth has been a centre of pilgrimage. Designed by Wagner and intended for the performance of his own operas and music-dramas Bayreuth has remained a monument to Wagner's achievement. In this leisurely session, we have Tam Wing-pong, who regularly visits Bayreuth and other opera houses in Europe, sharing his experiences with us. He will be joined by two more Wagner addicts who have also had much experience of operas staged in the West, Ip Kim-ho, once a music student in Germany, and critic William Lau. Their reflections on Wagner and the Bayreuth Festival will be both informative and entertaining.
