About the programme

Staging the massive Ring Cycle of Wagner in Hong Kong is beyond present resources.  Instead it will be possible to see a video recording of the four works that make up the cycle, a filmed version of a notable production in Bayreuth, to be seen on four evenings.  Lau Chi-kong, Editor of Hi-Fi Review, will host screenings of the Ring Cycle, and has chosen an acclaimed Bayreuth production of 1992, directed by Harry Kupfer and conducted by Daniel Barenboim.  The advanced equipment will be brought in to provide good picture and sound quality.  Before each screening, Lau will offer a brief introduction, and after each screening, he will be joined by Hi-Fi Review’s critics in a discussion in which the audience may join, not only asking questions but also contributing their own comments on the performance.
