'This is astounding pianism.' Fanfare
'It was playing always musical, always intelligent, and panoramic in scope. There was no question of technique, really; the fire and fury consumed everything in sight.'

| Midori |
Violin |
The violinist Midori made her debut in 1982 at the age of 11 with the New York Philharmonic conducted by Zubin Mehta. Since then, she has established a record of achievement which sets her apart as a master musician, an innovator, and a champion of the developmental potential of children. Midori's performing schedule is balanced between recitals, chamber music performances, and appearances with the world's most prestigious orchestras. Her 2004-05 season includes appearances at various summer festivals, six recital tours, and concerto appearances throughout Europe, the U.S. and Asia. In 1992 Midori founded 'Midori & Friends', a non-profit-making organization in New York which brings music education programmes to underprivileged children. Two other organizations, 'Music Sharing', based in Japan, and 'Partners in Performance', based in the U.S., also bring music closer to the lives of people who may not otherwise have involvement with the arts. Her commitment to community collaboration and outreach extends beyond these organizations to her work with young violinists in master classes all over the world, to her University Residencies Programme, to her Orchestra Residencies Programme, and to her positions on the violin faculty at the Manhattan School of Music and as Jascha Heifetz Chair at USC's Thornton School of Music. Midori's CD's are released by Sony Classical, for whom she records exclusively. Her violin is the 1734 Guarnerius del Gesu 'ex-Huberman', which is on lifetime loan to her from the Hayashibara Foundation. |
| Peter Vinograde |
Piano |
An outstanding interpreter of J.S. Bach and contemporary composers, pianist Peter Vinograde's annual tours of the U.S., Canada and Asia inevitably feature works of living composers. A regular performer on New York City's St. Andrews Series, he presented lectures and recitals there and elsewhere during the Copland Centennial featuring the Piano Fantasy. Vinograde's numerous distinctions began with first prize in the 1971 J.S. Bach International Competition, followed by his New York debut at Carnegie Recital Hall and his recital at Alice Tully Hall featuring Bach's Goldberg Variations. Frequently heard on public radio, his National Gallery programmes are aired on Performance Today, and he was featured on CBC-TV's The Journal. As a chamber musician, he has appeared at the Bard, Caramoor, and Mostly Mozart Festivals, and with the St. Luke's Players, Bargemusic, and Canadian Chamber Ensemble. Recent world premieres have included Hal Campbell's Piano Concerto (1997) in Utah and CD releases include a recording of Canadian composers Michael Matthews and Alfred Fisher, a recording of solo and chamber works of Nicolas Flagello, and Catalina recordings of Bach, Beethoven, Schumann, Rachmaninov, and American composers. A new release on Phoenix features works by Copland, Creston, and Mark Zuckerman. An Ames, Iowa native and member of the faculty at the Manhattan School of Music since 1981, Vinograde studied there with Zenon Fishbein. |
