Details of Performers

Ho Kit-fun

Acclaimed for his unique charming persuasive tone, harmonica solo recitalist Ho Kit-fun was well recognized by harmonica legend Tommy Reilly and master Fung On, from both of whom Ho had privileged lessons.  Ho with Yeung Yuet-bor won first in chromatic duos, a first worldwide record for Hong Kong, in the Third International Harmonica Competition 1966/67 Germany, FIH (on tape).   Ho has researched into harmonica concertos four times in the United Kingdom.  He has been interviewed by BBC in London.  Ho has performed harmonica concerto with Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong City Symphony Orchestra and Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra.  Ho has given five recitals at the Theatre of Hong Kong City Hall presented by the former Urban Council and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.  His radio and television recitals include RTV’s ‘Concert Miniature’, TVB’s ‘Tempo’ and RTHK’s ‘Recital from the Concert Hall’.  For RTHK, he has recorded works by Vaughan Williams, Chagrin, Milhaud and Spivakovsky. 

 

His recent solo appearances include performing in the Opening Ceremony of The First Hong Kong Harmonica Festival 2003, official Gala Concert in Sichuan Chengdu in celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with the Hong Kong Chinese YMCA Harmonica Orchestra in 2007 (also broadcast on SCTV-9 and SCTV-6), Gala Concert of Tommy Reilly Foundation Launch in 2008 in the United Kingdom, 2006 Taipei Adjudicator Concert and 2008 Hangzhou Special Concert of Harmonica Asia Pacific Harmonica Festivals, and Hong Kong Week of EXPO 2010 Shanghai at Century Plaza.

 

Sam Khan

Born in Hong Kong, Sam Khan received her Master’s degree of Music from the King’s College, University of London in 2005.  She is a first class honour music graduate of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and was also awarded a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from The University of Hong Kong.  In the United Kingdom, she studied piano with Professor Diana Ketler at the Royal Academy of Music.  She also had privileged lessons with Ma Cong, Dr. Mo Cheung-yu and Dr. Cheng Wai.

 

Sam was honoured with several awards which include full scholarship from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund, Yip Shiu Ming Scholarship, Sir Edward Youde Memorial Prize and Sir Grantham Memorial Award.  She was also placed twice on Dean’s List from the Faculty of Arts in The Chinese University of Hong Kong.  With profound musicality, Sam has performed widely with different soloists in Hong Kong.  Being a dedicated educator, she has released two piano-learning video recordings, and is currently headmistress of a music learning institution.
