Crystal’s Ballet Shoes tells the story of a ballerina, Crystal, from the angle of her ballet shoes. Crystal took up ballet because she was attracted by the pretty tutu at first. She enjoyed the first taste of success, but the strenuous training and the pressure from her family for spending time on ballet instead of on her studies made her want to give up. She managed to win her mother’s support by showing her what she could do on the dancing stage. She won a scholarship to go to mainland China, and even got a teaching position as Assistant Ballet Mistress.
But just as she was on the way to stardom, she fell down in one of the rehearsals. Now she only sits in her wheel chair and weeps. Can Crystal ever walk again and continue to pursue her dream? Can the many pairs of ballet shoes that have accompanied her throughout the years inspire her in any way?
