Programme Details

Hong Kong during the 1950’s marked a golden epoch of the traditional Cantonese opera, with many actors in lead roles (known as wenwusheng) commanding the scene. Some of the notable names are Yam Kim-fai, Ho Fei-fan, Lam Kar-sing, Mak Bing-wing, Chan Kam-tong and Sun Ma Sze-tsang. By creating classics in their repertoires and cutting a distinct profile as a virtuoso, they have become icons of Cantonese opera.  This series is a tribute to that golden era: through the prized works of these six stars revived by the leading names in Cantonese opera today, the audience will be able to witness how the theatre stage could emanate such magic for all.
