The Amorous King
During the Yuan Dynasty, both Shaohua, son of Commander Huangfu Jingzhong and Liu Kuibi, the prince's maternal uncle, made a proposal to Lijun, daughter of Meng Shiyuan, at the same time. As Shaohua won in the martial arts contest, Shiyuan betrothed his daughter to him. Driven by anger, Kuibi constructed a plot to snare Lijun's family in order to take her. To get away from him, Lijun ran away from home and dressed up as a man, using another name Li Junyu. Later she succeeded in the imperial examination and was promoted to become the Prime Minister.

On the other hand, the nostalgia for his fiancée had made Shaohua a lovesick man. His father asked Lijun to visit him and relieve his distress. Fearing that the Emperor would penalize her for cheating by dressing as a man, Lijun dared not to admit her relationship with Shaohua even though she knew that he was deeply in love with her.

In fact, the Emperor had already discovered that Lijun was a girl and wanted to make her one of his concubines. One day, he invited her to chant and write poems at the White Stone Bridge. After that, he forced Lijun to stay for the night with him but in vain. Later, on knowing Lijun's refusal to his proposal of marriage, the Emperor ordered her execution in great anger. Fortunately, with the help of the Empress, Lijun eventually reunited with Shaohua.
