On-line catalogue | Condition of Use | Services and charges | Audiovisual Materials Viewing Card The film related materials acquired by the archive have to be registered, sorted out, catalogued and preserved with professional archival supply by the cataloguing section (Resource Centre). An system of cataloguing and retrieval of information is employed based on international classification standard - Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) and cataloguing rule - Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules 2nd ed. (AACR2). Moreover, our staff undergoes expert training so that they can analyze and appraise the materials and make use of authoritative research tools to determine their authenticity and worth so as to ensure the accuracy of our collection information. Besides, the Resource Centre is to establish a comprehensive and effective multi-media film database in collaboration with the information technology team. The database is managed by an multi-media bilingual library system, to supply an accurate and comprehensive system of searching, checking and verification, accompanied with selected digitalized moving and still images, for convenient research. The mainstay of the library system goes in line with an international library record storage standard - Machine-Readable Catalogue (MARC) Format and a standard library system protocol Z39.50 that allows researchers to perform Broadcast Search function. Public users can directly look up the catalogues of local and overseas libraries and the archive systems of other information organizations that makes the task of searching and checking up information much more easier. The scope of subjects considered is rather broad and comprehensive in the Resource Centre, including synopsis, scripts, reviews, biographies of film personalities, film theories, techniques of film directing and scriptwriting, production techniques, cinematography, lighting, settings, special effects, make-up, props, etc. Research materials are also acquired such as texts and treatises on production budgets, management techniques, restoration, cataloguing, operations of archives, etc. To maintain a resourceful reference collection on film subjects, the Resource Centre always keeps its ear to the ground in the market place and inspects the magazines, publications and reviews for latest bibliographies, filmographies or videographies. It also keeps itself up to date with the catalogues in other libraries, bookshops and other shops selling audio-visual materials to add to the collection. |
