  Cataloguing Section

The film-related materials acquired by the Archive are registered, sorted out, catalogued and preserved with professional archival tools by the Cataloguing Section (Resource Centre). Collection data is categorised and catalogued according to the international classification standard and cataloguing rule, Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) and Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules 2nd ed. (AACR2) respectively. Moreover, to ensure accuracy of our collection information, our staff have received expert training so that they can analyse and appraise the materials and make use of authoritative research tools to determine their authenticity and worth.

Besides, the Resource Centre has compiled a comprehensive and effective multimedia film database in collaboration with the Systems Section. Operated by a multimedia bilingual library system, the database is an effective medium whereby users can browse, search, and verify collection data, which include digitised moving images and still graphics.

The mainstay of the library system goes in line with the international library record storage standard, Machine-Readable Catalogue (MARC) Format, and the standard library system protocol Z39.50 which allows users to perform Broadcast Search. Users can look up catalogues of local and overseas libraries simultaneously and locate the information they need more easily.

Our collection covers a wide scope of subjects, from film synopses, scripts, reviews, biographies of film personalities, to resources on film theories, directing and scriptwriting, and such production techniques as cinematography, lighting, sets, special effects, makeup and props. Also reference materials on budget management, restoration, cataloguing and operation of archives are included. We constantly keep ourselves up-to-date with the latest film news and reviews and search for relevant items in other library catalogues. We also procure the latest film publications and audiovisual materials to enrich our collection.
