Dialogue - chiming is created by Ren Rong, a renowned visual artist from the Mainland. He has formed his "organic" images - a blend of human form and trees - to highlight the beauty and essence of calligraphy, paper-cutting, shadow puppetry and sculpture. They are also allegorical images of ancient totems, mythical beasts and surrealistic forms of man and animals. Viewers use chiming sticks to hit the works and produce music, thus striking up a dialogue between people and sculpture. The sound of the chimes also conjures up mythical and sacred images in their echo of the bronze bells and stone chimes used for rituals in the ancient world.
Local percussionist Margie Tong is commissioned to compose and perform new pieces of percussion music inspired by this sculpture, illustrating the interaction between people, visual art and music.
