The idea of a concert featuring the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (HKCO) and Yo-Yo Ma first arose in 2004 when the orchestra's Artistic Director Yan Huichang went on tour to the UK. After four years of meticulous planning, such a performance is finally on its way and set to prove a wonderful treat for music lovers. For its first collaboration with Ma, the HKCO has commissioned composer Zhao Jiping to write a new work, Zhuang Zhou's Dream – Concerto for Cello and Orchestra. The programme also features a fresh arrangement for Ambush on All Sides for Cello by Li Cangsang. Sharing the stage will be members of the Silk Road Ensemble including Wu Tong (Sheng), Li Hui (Pipa) and Liu Lin (Guitar), a group which has been working closely with Ma for many years. An opportunity of a lifetime to witness modern Chinese music in the making. Mark your diary now!
