Following
the success of last year's Peking opera What Is Done Can't
Be Undone, The Peony Pavilion: A Spoiled
Romance is another effort to open up alternative doors
for Chinese operatic performance. Based on the popular story
of The Peony Pavilion, this work sets out to examine the absurd
relationship among a puppet, his master and a goddess who
controls their destiny. It has incorporated contemporary music,
and various theatrical motifs to merge into traditional story-telling.
In August, this programme has participated in the "Asian
Performing Arts Festival" in Tokyo. |
