"Billy Elliot in Havana" ~ Evening Standard
Hot and unstoppable, Cuban ballet superstar Carlos Acosta is enjoying a meteoric rise on the international dance scene. He was the first black principal at The Royal Ballet and, in 2004, received the 'National Dance Award' and was named by the influential Dance Europe magazine 'Best Dancer of the Year'. Acosta is now coming to Hong Kong with elite dancers from the Cuban National Ballet, Danza Contemporánea de Cuba, Conjunto Folklórico Nacional de Cuba and a band of top Cuban musicians to perform a critically acclaimed piece that he directed and choreographed himself: Tocororo -- A Cuban Tale.
Set in Havana, this is a heartfelt tale of Tocororo - a boy named after the multicoloured national bird of Cuba - who left the countryside in search of his dreams in the big city. Blending London West End glamour with salsa, classical ballet, pop, jazz, African rhythm and a tint of Caribbean flavour, this original dance production showcases the diverse cultures of Cuba.
On its debut in 2003, Tocororo touched the heart of the Cuban nation and was a sell-out at Sadler's Wells in London for two years. The show will now première in Asia at the 'Latin Passion' Festival. Come. You 'll be left breathless!
