To encourage the involvement of various sectors of the community in the 2009 EAG Torch Relay, the Torchbearer Selection Panel has invited National Sports Associations of 2009 EAG Sports, 18 District Councils, 2009 EAG Principal Contributor and Diamond Partners, Youth Groups and 2009 EAG Volunteers to nominate suitable persons as well as EAG Theme Song Singers to be torchbearers to help spread the EAG spirit throughout the territory. With a focus on being young and energetic, the Torch Relay aims at encouraging the young generation to actively take part in sports to display the theme of "Light the way to the EAG".
